132 Auto Repair Shops across the U.S. Join Together to put the Brakes on Breast Cancer!

Dick Wolfe’s Garage in Harrisburg, Pa is proudly supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in the Brakes for Breasts campaign fundraiser where during the month of October this independently-owned auto repair shop is joining 131 other independent shops representing 28 states across the U.S. by offering their customers FREE brake pads and donating 10% of every brake service directly to The Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund.

The Brakes For Breasts fundraiser is different from many breast cancer fundraising campaigns which run during October because funds raised by these independently-owned auto repair shops goes directly to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund in order to fund research of a vaccine which will lead to a cure for breast cancer, not just treatments for the disease.

Another way that this fundraising mission is different from many other breast cancer fundraising efforts is that 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Cleveland Clinic and zero percent of these donated profits are lost any type of marketing and administrative fees. Program founders, Leigh Anne Best and Laura Frank, felt it important to create a program where the participating shops could raise money for an organization working on a breast cancer vaccine cure while each shop can see the direct impact of all the funds they raise.

2014 marks the fourth year for the Brakes For Breasts fundraiser. It was launched in 2011 by two women, Leigh Anne Best of Mighty Auto Pro in Medina, OH and Laura Frank of Royal Car Care & Tire Center in Brunswick, OH. Of the past three years fundraising successes and this year’s enrollment jump, Leigh Anne Best says:

“We are hopeful we will once again achieve our goal in 2014, which is raising $110,000! By doing so we would will have in one year raised as much as we did collectively in the first 3 years. We are humbled that we have had such great participation, and our growth has been beyond our wildest dreams when we began Brakes for Breasts just 3 short years ago.

Our first year (2011), we raised $10k with 5 shops in Ohio. In 2012 we asked our fellow auto repair shop owners across the country to join our mission and we tripled participation while raising $32,848. In 2013 we raised $66,499 with 100% of their proceeds going to the Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund each and every year. We can say without hesitation that not one cent has ever gone anywhere but directly to the Vaccine. No marketing fees, no salaries, no rents to pay. ALL of this is done by volunteer efforts.
